MISSION

In relation to the University's mission of disseminating multilingualism and multiculturalism, through research and services focused on archaeology, CADMO has the following objectives:

  1. education for cultural heritage, considered to be a method for citizenship education, through the lens of archaeology;
  2. education for research, knowledge and peaceful coexistence in the ancient landscape, with particular regard to the Tuscan territory, in the link between our international University and the territory of Siena;
  3. consolidation of a new perspective for Etruscan-Italic archaeology, overcoming the character of antiquarian studies and 'Etruscanism' and favoring analysis of the multiple diversities and mobility phenomena between pre-Roman populations;
  4. establishment of a "hybrid" research and service center, capable of promoting the meeting between different study traditions, the mediation between national and international excavation traditions, and focused on offering diversified and attractive services for field activities;
  5. internationalization of Italian archeology by promoting international archaeological, theoretical and methodological debate, in the belief that the nature of UNISTRASI as an international University can constitute, through CADMO, a mediation between the Italian tradition and the so-called parallel literatures (especially Anglo-Saxon ones);
  6. establishment and promotion of the research international hub of San Casciano dei Bagni. In February 2022, a valorization agreement was signed pursuant to art. 112 of the Code for Cultural Heritage and Landscape, signed between DG ABAP and DG Museums of the Ministry of Culture, Tuscany Region, Municipality and UNISTRASI for the creation of a museum, an archaeological area and an international research hub in San Casciano dei Bagni. This valorization agreement constitutes the most important regulatory framework within which the action of UNISTRASI consists in the possibility of guiding the establishment of the research hub.
